KONG GETS REAL – VERY REAL!

Presented by Australian-based production company, Global Creatures (Walking With Dinosaurs) and penned by Olivier award winning writer, Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), King Kong – the musical – follows the outlines of the original 1933 movie: a monstrous creature (measuring 20ft tall and weighing 2000 pounds) resides in a place called Skull Island. First he is captivated by a young woman, then captured by a filmmaker, and finally transported to New York to be poked, prodded and monetised. Kong eventually breaks free of his shackles – only to meet his final demise, but not before wreaking havoc in NYC...

In the 2018 Broadway adaptation of the Hollywood classic, the creation of King Kong’s projection content is the result of AIM’s close collaboration with Scenic Designer, Peter England. In this modern-day recreation, AIM’s projection content was designed to support and extend England’s physical stage settings – providing a sense of textural richness and motion dynamic to the production.

From beginning to end, the audience is pulled towards the stage by ever-shifting images of New York City’s skyscrapers, Skull Island’s beautiful moonlit scenery and the blurry rush of neon lights as the captured Kong makes a desperate escape from his captors.
