THE LONDONER – LONDON CALLING

Visitors to the Londoner Hotel Macau are treated to a one-of-a-kind audience experience. AIM’s installation ‘London calling’ is represented by an oversized, iconic London Phone Booth and matching ‘phone’ handsets – right in the centre of the shopping strip at the Londoner Hotel.

USING REAL TIME VOICE AND FACE TRACKING TECHNOLOGY, A PERFORMER IS ABLE TO INTERACT LIVE WITH THE AUDIENCE!

Londi the puppy (the Late Queen’s favourite Corgi) is a loveable and playful character; designed and animated by AIM, Londi is frequently depicted as getting up to all sorts of mischief at her home ‘The Londoner’ – across many of the installations produced and delivered by AIM.

For this installation, the whole experience is curated by a live host whose mission is to direct and encourage passers-by to have a chat with Londi. As part of the experience, Londi appears in the LED screens of the oversized telephone box, enchanting visitors – chatting with them and performing bespoke animated gestures and tricks. Unbeknown to the audience, the magic of the performance is that the movements are controlled live by a hidden performer!

Using real-time voice and facial motion capture, Londi the puppy is projected onto 4 large digital screens of the phone booth while the matching phone handsets create a natural viewing base for audience members. To enhance the immersion, the handsets contain hidden speakers – allowing for a more captivating sound projection experience.

AIM CREATED A LIVE REAL-TIME INTERACTIVE 3D CORGI

The Londi actor is hidden within the booth and is a trained improvisation actor, drawing guests into the experience through humorous and inquisitive conversation, providing light relief and offering advice on all the must-see attractions in Macau.

In-between regular programming of the scheduled Londi ‘live’ shows, the windows of the Phone Booth switch into ambient mode – presenting gorgeous and instantly recognisable London city imagery in a gentle panning slideshow. This unique function allows for a 24-hour activation of the installation.

In addition to the LED walls, the phone booth’s operating panel is an interactive touchscreen and personal handset, allowing the audience to have a more intimate and personalised experience.
