LIVE MUSIC EVENT IN THE HEART OF JEDDAH
AIM BROUGHT THE OLD TOWN TO LIFE WITH 72 HOURS OF LIVE CONTENT ACROSS 5 STAGES
Artists in Motion was invited to be the content creator and visual creative lead for the Balad Beast music festival, which took place in the UNESCO heritage Al Balad, the centre of the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The site was transformed into a dance music festival with over 30 international DJs, local performers, and live electronic music acts for an exclusive audience of 15,000 people.
The masterminds behind this transformative project, MDLBEAST, partnered with event producers productionglue to assemble a team of world-class projection, lighting, laser and set designers. Their goal was to create a music festival that was not only groundbreaking, but respectful and embracing of Al Balad, its architecture and culture.
Unlike a standard European festival, Balad Beast was to be a spectacle Jeddah could share with the world as all content was custom-made for the event, drawing inspiration from the city, its textures, colours and patterns. We were extremely privileged to work with the locals and immerse ourselves in this special location.
Prior to the event, a team from AIM researched and filmed the site, speaking to local designers and absorbing the essence of the culture. This research, coupled with our design and technical experience, formed the backbone and inspiration for the two-day festival: five major content installations, 72 hours of live content playback and manipulation - never missing a beat!
