Reimagined for the 2026 edition of Parrtjima – A Festival in Light, The Language of the Land transformed the dramatic backdrop of the 300-million-year-old Tjoritja (MacDonnell Ranges) into a living canvas of light, sound and story.
Written and curated by the late Rhoda Roberts AO, the experience invited audiences to slow down, listen deeply and connect with Country through a powerful narrative that honoured the enduring relationship between landscape, culture and story. Combining expansive LED technology, dynamic lighting and richly layered visual environments, the production revealed the rhythms, textures and ancient presence of the ranges with extraordinary depth and sensitivity.
Rather than simply illuminating the landscape, The Language of the Land sought to foster a deeper appreciation of place, creating a memorable night-time experience where contemporary media and timeless storytelling came together beneath one of Australia's most remarkable natural landmarks.
